Quetrus Lagoon

This demanding Full Day will take us to explore even further into the Tagua Tagua Park, taking as a first part our exploration of the Alerces Centenarios that reaches the Alerces Lagoon, and then continue towards the Quetrus Lagoon. Recommended only for people in very good physical condition, accustomed to walking long hours and at a good pace, due to the length of the section to be covered. We leave the Tawa by boat to Tagua Tagua Park, a unique conservation area that hides some of the most beautiful hiking trails in Northern Patagonia. With more than 3,000 hectares, this park is a real gem for those who enjoy nature and wild places. The evergreen forest, water and mountains interact here in an endless cycle of life, giving home to centuries-old Alerce trees, Coihues and Lichens among others. It is home to species such as Pudú, Pumas, Monito del Monte, Quetru Duck. The boat will leave us at the entrance of the park, where we will start walking upstream through mountain landscapes and native forest. After 6 Kms of walking we will arrive at the famous Laguna Alerces, a place that treasures a forest of sunken larch trees. This is a place that marks the middle of the way up, and is the perfect stop to rest a little and recover energy for what is left on the way to the main milestone of the day. Then we resume the trekking for another 7.2 km, where the slope becomes steeper in parts, giving us impressive aerial views, and appearing the ancient larch trees in our way, before reaching a lagoon surrounded by an amphitheater of impressive granite walls, where we can appreciate the majesty of the nature around us. This is Quetrus lagoon, which takes its name from the ducks that can be found swimming in it. This section is a little more demanding than the first one, but it will certainly be worthwhile to walk it until the end, to enjoy a delicious lunch outdoors before starting the descent to take the boat back to the Tawa. Whether in our Tawa Exploration mode, or as a self-guided exploration, the Tagua Tagua Park and its trekking to the Quetrus Lagoon is a must of the Puelo Profundo.

How to coordinate?

Please contact our Hospitality or Explorations team to coordinate your visit to the park. It requires at least 48 hrs in advance to ensure entrance and coordinate the boat transfer from the Tawa. If you go in a coordinated exploration format, we recommend our Tawa Box. It is an excellent lunch for that day of exploration. In case you want to experience a Tawa Exploration in this place, these are part of our Full Expedition program. In case you have chosen a different program for your stay, please contact our Hospitality team to check availability and associated rates.
